UNIVERSAL ELECTRONICS - DON'T TAKE THE RISK
If you have been searching the web looking for low prices on DENON, PIONEER, ALLEN & HEATH or RANE, you may have come across some very cheap deals that appear too good to be true? If so, in many cases these deals are!
WE GUARANTEE to do everything we can to beat any price from UNIVERSAL ELECTRONICS.
We have bought products ourselves from this company on behalf of some of the major audio brands in the UK and in each case, serial numbers have been removed from both the packaging and the product. In the case of two Denon units purchased, the numbers were scratched off with what we presume was a knife. There were no manuals inside, the delivery took three times as long as they said it would and in all cases, the manufacturer's have confirmed that as there is no CE mark on these goods, they were not destined for European markets and there is absolutely NO E.U. or U.K. warranty. This is despite the companies in question continuing to state that it is UK stock and that there is a warranty.
IS THE GEAR CHEAP?
As most people are aware, the States is in a mess generally at the moment. They are cheaper than the UK over there on most DJ products. They are able to undercut us and many other genuine dealers as the US sellers have bought the gear very cheap. However, when you add the delivery it is not always that much cheaper than a deal we could do you. In many cases there may be further delays and customs charges to pay. The two units we bought from UNIVERSAL were described as "GIFTS" on the customs declaration. We have heard many tales of Customs not buying this and then slapping an £80 - £100 excess charge.
HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH IT?
Most of this gear is sold on auction websites. These often rely on feedback from previous customers. Whilst many customers are happy to wait and don't realise the warranty issues until it is too late, the ones that are not happy, struggle to get their point across. We left negative feedback for one US importer but we were then reported to the auction site as a fraudulent non-payer. We presume they continue to get away with this, thus keeping their reputation in tact.
WHAT IF I WANT TO TAKE THE RISK?
Buying from a non-dealer is always a risk. It all comes down to back up if something goes wrong. There are clearly savings to be had and on the more expensive items the savings are bigger. However a US imported Pioneer CD player or mixer could be worthless if damaged or faulty as the UK will not support the imported product. The units in question are designed for the USA and the warranties are not global.
WHAT CAN www.djdeals.co.uk DO?
All we can say to prospective customers is give us a call or drop us an email. Let us know what deal you have seen and we will do our best to get as close to it as possible. When taking in to account the delivery and possible customs charges we may even be cheaper.
Please note that ALL the major brands from our industry have confirmed they have not supplied this company any product from the UK. They do not approve for their product to be sold in this way and are taking measures to halt their imported supply.
Trading Standards and UK Customs and Excise are aware of this and are now also on the case!
